OverDrive reminder AND an addition to our resources!

We're excited to tell you that we've added some resources to help you in your pursuit of knowledge and excellence. The highlight is e-books. We have two services set up for you. One (OverDrive) is primarily a fiction collection. The other is called Mackin VIA and we've compiled a large collection of primarily non-fiction books for your research and informational reading.

Both give you the ability to read online, using a tablet, or using your smart phone.


OverDrive Digital Library - Primarily fiction. Find and check out the latest fiction titles. Nearly  400 e-books and audio books

  • How do I log in?
    • Username: Your student ID number
    • Password: Your PowerSchool password
  • On what can I read these e-books?
    • PC or Mac - read online. No download necessary
    • Tablets - iOS and Android

      • Download to your tablet and read using the OverDrive Media Console app.

Mackin VIA E-Book Web portal - Primarily Non-Fiction. Use this for your research and informational needs. Over 3700 e-books in this collection

  • How do I log in?
    • School: Douglas High School
    • Visit the Leraning Commons to ask for the username and password for this resource.
    • This is a single username and password to be used by all DHS students. Books can be viewed simultaneously by an unlimited number of students.

    • PC or Mac - read online. No download necessary

Last chance! Read and win!


The final day to enter the Media Center's OverDrive e-reading promotion is Thursday, May 9 at 2:30 P.M. The final Nook drawing will be held shortly thereafter, with winners announced at the end of the day.

The Grand Prize drawing (iPad Mini) will also occur at that time. The winner will be drawn from ALL entries this year. It's not too late to become eligible. Read the details here.

Welcome to the Learning Commons!

The Media Center is changing its name to reflect its mission. The DHS Learning Commons a) exists for ALL students and staff,  b) encourages reading and learning, and c) serves as a comfortable place to meet. Stop in and read, discuss, and learn!
The mission of the Douglas High School Learning Commons is to be an integral member of the learning community in a way that welcomes all staff and students and fosters student academic growth; so that all will become accountable lifelong learners and skilled producers and consumers of information.

Addicted to your phone? Here's another use for your smartphone: OverDrive has apps for iOS and Android devices - phones and tablets. Now you can read on your phone using the OverDrive Media Console app. Stop in to see Mr. Kitterman if you need help.



No smartphone? No problem. You can check out and read OverDrive books directly in your browser. Check it out!

Now you can read OverDrive ebooks in your browser

OverDrive has just launched their new Read application: "[OverDrive]ha[s] extended your eBooks to new devices with the introduction of OverDrive Read. In addition to all of the current apps, eReaders, and other options your students will continue to enjoy, this new browser-based reading option allows users to read many eBooks immediately without installing any apps or Adobe activation. Students will be given the option of reading in their browser, when available, with the simple click of a button after checking out a title.

Introducing.........

............a great online resource for research. While OverDrive is great for fiction titles, very few nonfiction materials are available. We've set up a resource with nonfiction eBooks. It's called VIA. Books can be viewed by multiple students at the same time. We're adding to the collection now. The details:
  • Where is it? http://mackinvia.com - There's a link to it on the DHS Student Start Page.
  • What's my username and password? There is a single username and password for all DHS students and staff to use. We can't post it here. Ask in the Media Center, and we'll give it to you.
  • How do I check out eBooks on VIA? You don't need to check them out. Just log in to view them.
